Although Lucky Star got a new director in fifth episode, I didn’t pay much attention to it as I didn’t realize it. This time I watched the show knowing that there’s now a different director. The change isn’t that big, the pace is a bit faster and there’s no more idling around like in first episodes. But like I said before, Lucky Star is getting better and better as it goes on.
I think throwing in the beach episode this early is quite bold. Beach episode is usually something that should be saved until the time is right to boost the shows popularity by showing the characters in their swimwear. However, there’s not really fanservice in Lucky Star so for this show beach is just another setting for the show and doesn’t hold that much meaning.
The bath scene was even bolder. Because the girls are drawn to look like few years younger than they are, even though I know all of them are almost adults, the lolicon spirit inside me is getting difficult to keep under control after seeing this much skin. And I just said there’s no fanservice in Lucky Star…
After coming back from the beach Kagami’s and Tsukasa’s father tells them to clean their rooms and that’s pretty much all that happens for the rest of episode. There was some quite funny dialogue between Konata and Kagami so it was all good.
Besides Konata, I haven’t commented much on the characters but lately both Kagami and Tsukasa have gained lots of popularity points from me. They both have light purple hair and I like unnatural hair colours in general, and both light blue and light purple happen to be my favourites. I like Kagami because she’s most tsundere-ish character in Lucky Star and she has pigtails which is somewhat granted because she’s tsundere. For liking Tsukasa, I don’t think I have any particular reasons, but after seeing this shot I knew I like her.
I think I like Miyuki least of all the main characters. She has pink hair, wears glasses and I like those features but the problem is her clumsiness. While that is one of the key features for Meganekko, I think clumsiness doesn’t suit girls her age. I think Matsuri from Ichigo Mashimaro is cute for her clumsiness but it just doesn’t work with Miyuki or any older girl in general.
